Rain Out & Lightning Policy

RAIN OUT POLICY
Every effort is made to play games on the days and times they are scheduled. Games will not be cancelled until later afternoon.  If you have not received noticed via email from the league or heard from your team’s manager, please assume the game is being played as scheduled. Many times, a decision to cancel will be a “game time” decision.

If it has rained earlier in the day and the fields are flooded the City of Pinellas Park will notify the leagues president. The president will then communicate to the team’s managers and team managers are responsible for notifying their teams.

If possible, a board member, manager or coach will visit the fields during the day after the rain has stopped to determine if a game or practice is possible. They will get in touch with the league president to determine if some or all fields are unplayable.

The following is taken into consideration prior to cancelling a game or practice:
How much has it rained?
How much water is on the infield/outfield?
Is there more rain expected?
How many people do we have to work on the fields to get them ready?
Do we have the materials (quick dry, shop vac, etc) to get the fields ready?

If a game is cancelled the home team manager is responsible for reaching out to the other league if playing a visiting team to let them know the game is cancelled and work on a date that both teams can reschedule the game.

Rescheduled games take priority over scheduled practices.

LIGHTNING POLICY
All games and practices are to stop immediately if lightning can be seen, or thunder can be heard. Lightning detection apps (such as WeatherBug) will be monitored by a Board Member for games or the team manager for practices. If the lightning meter registers a 0 – 10 on the meter during a game or practice, play will be suspended.

All players, coaches and parents should move immediately to their car or take shelter inside a building. Standing under the concession or in a dugout is not safe during a thunderstorm.

Games and practices may resume 30 minutes after the last lightning strike or thunder is no longer audible.  The board member or coach will inform the players and parents that players can resume play.
